Port Aransas Fishing: Full-Day Inshore Action

Get ready to wet a line in some of the best inshore fishing spots Port Aransas has to offer! Our full-day trip packs in 6 solid hours of non-stop angling action. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, we'll put you on the fish and show you why Port A is a top-notch destination for reeling in trophy trout, redfish, and more. Bring your A-game and let's make some memories on the water!

What's In Store

We'll kick things off bright and early, meeting at the dock as the sun starts peeking over the horizon. After a quick safety rundown, we'll fire up the engines and head out to where the fish are biting. This full-day trip gives us plenty of time to hit multiple spots and really dial in on the pattern. We'll start by targeting the early morning bite in the shallows, then adjust our strategy as the day progresses. Expect to work grass flats, oyster reefs, and channel edges as we search for that next big strike. With two anglers max per trip, you'll have all the elbow room you need to cast and fight fish comfortably.

Rods, Reels, and Tactics

We'll be using light to medium tackle, perfect for battling inshore species without wearing yourself out. Depending on conditions, we might throw soft plastics, work topwater lures, or soak some live bait. I'll show you how to work a popping cork – a local favorite that drives trout and reds crazy. We'll also cover sight-casting techniques for those times when we spot tailing redfish in skinny water. Don't worry if you're new to these methods; I'll walk you through every step and have you fishing like a pro in no time. And hey, if you've got a favorite lure or technique you want to try, just let me know. This is your trip, after all!

Target Species

Speckled Sea Trout: These spotted beauties are a staple of Port Aransas inshore fishing. Known for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic fights, specks can range from 14 to over 25 inches. We typically target them around grass flats and drop-offs, using soft plastics or live shrimp. The best action is often early morning or late evening when they're actively feeding.

Redfish: Red drum, or redfish as we call 'em, are the bulldogs of the flats. These copper-colored brutes can push 40 inches and put up one heck of a fight. We'll look for them tailing in shallow water or cruising along oyster reefs. Sight-casting to reds is an absolute blast – there's nothing like watching a big red crush your lure right in front of you!

Southern Flounder: These flatfish might not look like much, but they're prized for both their fight and their tasty fillets. Flounder like to hang around structure and ambush their prey. We'll target them near jetties, pier pilings, and drop-offs. The fall run, when flounder migrate to the Gulf, is prime time to land a doormat.

Time to Lock In Your Trip

Listen, the fish are out there waiting, and spots on the calendar fill up fast. This full-day trip is your ticket to experiencing the best inshore fishing Port Aransas has to offer. We'll put you on fish, share some local knowledge, and make sure you have a blast doing it. So what are you waiting for? Grab your hat, sunscreen, and sense of adventure – then give me a call at 361-332-1133 to book your spot. The big one isn't going to catch itself!

Learn more about the species

Redfish

Redfish, or red drum, are a favorite target in our shallow coastal waters. These copper-colored beauties typically run 20-30 inches, but can grow over 40 inches and top 50 pounds. Look for them in water as shallow as 1-4 feet, often tailing in grass flats or hanging around oyster reefs and jetties. Fall and spring are prime seasons, but you can catch reds year-round here. Anglers love 'em for their hard-fighting spirit and excellent table fare. They'll hit just about anything when they're feeding – from live bait to artificial lures. Topwater plugs can produce some exciting strikes in the shallows. Here's a local tip: keep an eye out for their distinctive tail wakes or "nervous water" as they move through the flats. Cast ahead of their path and you're in for some fun. Just remember that bigger reds over 28 inches are breeders, so we encourage catch and release to keep the population healthy.

Redfish

Sea Trout

Southern Flounders are crafty bottom-dwellers, usually hanging out in shallow coastal areas, bays, and estuaries. They're masters of camouflage, blending right into sandy or muddy bottoms. Most are 15-18 inches long, but the big ones can stretch to 33 inches and hit 20 pounds. These flatfish are ambush predators, lying in wait for smaller fish, shrimp, and crabs to swim by. Fall's the prime time to catch 'em, when they're moving to deeper waters. Folks love targeting flounder for their tasty white meat and the challenge of hooking these sneaky fish. To land one, try drifting or still fishing with live bait or artificial lures. Bull minnows, mullet, and shrimp work great. Here's a local trick: when you feel a bite, don't set the hook right away. Give the flounder a few seconds to really grab the bait, then reel in steady. They've got soft mouths, so a gentle touch goes a long way.

Sea Trout

Southern Flounder

Sea trout, also called speckled trout, are a blast to catch in our bays and coastal waters. These silvery, spotted fish usually run 14-24 inches and 1-5 pounds, though some giants can hit 40 pounds. They love to hang around grass flats, channels, and deeper holes, especially near structure. Spring and fall are prime seasons, but you can catch specks year-round if you know where to look. Anglers prize them for their aggressive strikes and delicate, flaky meat. They'll hit a variety of lures and live bait – soft plastics, topwaters, and live shrimp are all top choices. Here's a local secret: try fishing the lights at night, especially in summer. Trout love to gather in the illuminated water to feed on baitfish. Use a quiet approach and light tackle for best results. When you find a school, you can often catch multiple fish before they wise up and move on. Just remember to handle them gently if you're releasing them – they've got soft mouths.
